To report a mistake in a grid, please give its number and size (for example "Grande no. 12, Level 2") along with the square concerned. It helps us a great deal.
How to play
I have never done arrow-words before
The clues are written inside the grey squares, and the arrow shows where the word starts and which way to write it: to the right, downwards, or both when a single square carries two clues.
- Tap a white square: the clue for that word appears in large type in the banner.
- Type the letters on the app's keyboard.
- When a word is correct it locks — you can no longer erase it by mistake.
- The grid is finished when every square is correctly filled in.
No connection is needed: the grids ship with the app. You can play on a train, on a plane or out of range.
How do I change direction on a square?
Tap the already-selected square again: the across word and the down word crossing it swap over. The clue banner follows.
The cursor skips squares — is that normal?
Yes. By default, after each letter the cursor goes straight to the next empty square of the word, and once a word is complete it moves on to the next word to be filled in.
Both behaviours can be turned off in Settings → Typing ("Skip filled squares" and "Move to next word automatically") if you would rather advance square by square.
How do I correct a letter?
Select the square and use the delete key on the app's keyboard. Squares belonging to a word already found, and squares revealed by a hint, are locked: they can no longer be changed.
Sizes, difficulty and the daily challenge
What is the difference between size and difficulty?
They are two independent settings, the way a puzzle magazine does it.
- The size sets how big the grid is, and therefore how long the session lasts: Mini 8×8 (5–10 min), Classique 10×10 (10–20 min), Grande 13×13 (20–40 min).
- The difficulty sets how hard the clues are: Level 1 for direct clues, Level 2 for a richer vocabulary, Level 3 for allusive clues.
All nine combinations exist, for a total of 604 grids shipped with the app.
How do the daily challenge and the streak work?
Every day a Classique grid is featured on the home screen. Finish one within the day to keep your streak alive: the counter shows the number of consecutive days played, and your best score is kept on the Statistics screen, along with the average time per size.
The streak is based on your device's date. Skipping a day resets it — but every grid you have completed still counts.
Hints and advertising
How do I ask for a hint?
Select a square, then tap the hint button: the correct letter is revealed and the square is locked. One free hint is granted per grid.
What if I want another hint?
Without Premium, the app offers to let you watch a short video in exchange. It is entirely voluntary: you can decline and carry on playing normally. No advert ever shows up by itself, neither during a grid nor between two grids.
The first time, a GDPR-compliant consent screen is presented (and, on iPhone and iPad, Apple's tracking permission prompt). You can refuse everything without losing anything. If the video is unavailable — offline, for instance — the hint is granted to you.
With Premium, hints are unlimited and no video is ever offered. See the privacy policy.
Premium and restoring a purchase
What does Premium include?
A one-off purchase of €2.99, with no subscription and no renewal, giving unlimited hints, the complete absence of advertising, a grid's full solution, and three extra grid styles: Newsprint, Night and Nature.
I changed phone — how do I get my Premium back?
Open Settings → Restore purchases (the button is also on the Premium screen), while signed in to the same Apple or Google account you used for the purchase. The purchase is tied to that account, not to the device: there is nothing to pay again.
Restoring finds nothing
First check that you are on the account used for the purchase, and on the same platform: a purchase made on an iPhone cannot be restored on Android, and vice versa — they are two separate stores.
If the problem persists, write to us and attach the receipt sent by Apple or Google.
Requesting a refund
Refunds are handled by the app store, not by us: use reportaproblem.apple.com for an iPhone or iPad purchase, or your Google Play order history for an Android purchase.
Progress and updates
Is my progress saved automatically?
Yes, continuously and on your device. You can close the app in the middle of a word: it will reopen the grid exactly where you left it.
A grid in progress restarted from scratch after an update
This happens when the grid itself was corrected by the update (a clue reworded, a word replaced). Your letters would no longer match the new solutions, so the app prefers to start from a clean grid rather than show baffling errors.
Only the grids actually modified are affected. Your statistics, your streak, the grids you have already completed and your Premium purchase are never touched.
How do I erase everything?
Uninstalling the app deletes all the data saved on the device. Do make a note of the account used for the purchase: Premium is then restored from Settings → Restore purchases.
Readability and accessibility
The text is too small for me
In Settings → Readability:
- Clue text size: adjustable up to ×1.6, on top of your system text size.
- High contrast: thicker borders and bolder colours.
- Large clue banner: the current clue shown in large type above the keyboard.
The grid zooms with a pinch, and a double tap switches between "see everything" and the close-up zoom.
Screen reader, dark theme, haptics
Every square is announced by VoiceOver on iPhone and iPad, and by TalkBack on Android. A light, dark or automatic theme is available in Settings → Appearance. Haptics can be switched off in Settings → Comfort.
